In a single day, an area of about 600 meters has disappeared into the Padma at Majhir Ghat in Naodoba Union of Jajira Upazila of Shariatpur. The people of Majhir Ghat have never seen such a terrible form of Padma before. This tragedy began at around 5:45 am. Dream homes are disappearing into the river before our eyes, places of recreation are swallowed by the Padma in an instant. There is nothing to do now but watch. Many people have lost everything and are now destitute. A few months ago, Majhir Ghat was full of charm, but today it has become a death village with the cries of people helpless before nature. Along with Majhir Ghat, at least 700 families from Alam Kharkandi, Ukil Uddin Munshikandi and Ochim Uddin Madbarkandi villages are also at risk of erosion by the Padma. While investigating the reasons for the continuous erosion, it has been found that, firstly, the irresponsibility of the erosion control officers, and secondly, the unbridled extraction of sand by some unscrupulous local sand traders. To be clear, if erosion is not prevented now in the Majhir Ghat area, then it will soon affect the Padma Bridge. In just a week, almost half of the houses, shops and other establishments in the Majhir Ghat area have been submerged in the Padma. The entire area is now terrified due to the suffering of the people. In the interest of the country and the progress of the people, the government should immediately stand by those who have been affected by this terrible erosion of the Padma in the Majhir Ghat area of Naodoba Union of Jajira Upazila, by providing appropriate compensation to those who have been affected by this terrible erosion of the Padma, and a permanent dam should be constructed in the entire area as soon as possible so that such a terrible form of the Padma is not seen in this area in the future.
