When fear or excitement takes over, dogs don’t feel safe; they take control. In this episode of Better Human Better Dog, I help two families whose emotions turned love into chaos. First, there’s Freddy, a small dog with a long bite history. Sweet at home, but when guests arrive, he becomes a “silent biter.” His humans, Ryan and Bethany, are loving but fearful, especially Bethany, whose nervous energy fuels Freddy’s protective behavior. With a baby in the house and relatives losing trust, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Then, I met Dream, a runaway husky whose excitement and lack of structure turned every outing into danger. She escapes, pulls, and drags the family into chaos. I teach them how to guide Dream’s energy with calm, assertive leadership, not chasing, not yelling. With practice, Dream learns to come back home on her own, even with distractions all around. The family learns how unity, structure, and calm confidence bring safety and peace back to their lives.
