THE MOST DANGEROUS AND BEAUTIFUL ROAD IN THE WORLD - DRIVING THE CARRETERA AUSTRAL IN A KOMBI RV We begin a great adventure along the Carretera Austral in Chile. We'll drive in a Kombi and explore the entire road from end to end. We'll leave from KM 0 and head to KM 1,247. Our journey along the Carretera Austral will begin in Villa O'Higgins, a small town located in the southernmost tip of Chilean Patagonia. It's the last town on the Carretera Austral, a small town that lived isolated from the world until the 2000s when the Carretera Austral arrived and connected the city with the rest of Chile. We'll show you what Villa O'Higgins and life are like in the most isolated town on the Carretera Austral. This is a point on the road that few people reach due to its distance and the road being too dangerous for cars. We'll show you the entire Carretera Austral road up to the first ferry crossing the fjords. Leaving Villa O'Higgins, we'll camp in a completely remote location surrounded by nature, a wild campsite near a waterfall. The next day, we'll drive along the Carretera Austral for approximately 64 km to Embarcadero Rio Bravo, a small port where the ferry docks for the crossing to Puerto de Caleta Yungay. This ferry is free and subsidized by the government so that residents and tourists can use it. The crossing takes approximately 40 minutes. However, there are specific times for the crossing, and depending on the month or season, the number of ferries crossing may decrease. However, right at the port, there's a shelter with a sign indicating the crossing times. We took the ferry across to continue our journey along the Carretera Austral. Our next stop will be the small village of Caleta Tortel.
