05 - Reparação da Longarina - O Perigo!

OBJECTIVE: To clarify, for the repair market in general, how much the repair process influences the original characteristics of a structural part, showing the importance of performing partial replacement within quality standards. The study compared the behavior of a structural part (longitudinal member), after three impact tests, to analyze its deformations in some repair situations. CONCLUSIONS This study shows how important it is to adopt correct equipment and procedures in order to ensure the quality of the work and also the safety of the occupants. One should never repair a programmed deformation region, because, by altering the impact absorption characteristics of the part, it behaves unsatisfactorily in a future impact, causing greater damage to the vehicle structure and to the occupants. For the repair of structural elements, a detailed evaluation must be carried out, because the repair is only viable if the programmed deformation areas are not affected.
