Did I Just Beat Microbrands? $200 Miyota 9015 Field Watch

In this video, I assembled my first custom watch using all aftermarket components paired with a genuine Miyota 9015 automatic movement from Japan. Introducing: OBSIDIAN. Inspired by the idea that good design doesn’t need a luxury logo attached to it, this build features a meteorite texture dial, sapphire crystal, brushed stainless steel case, and suede strap — carefully chosen to create a watch that feels refined, minimal, and purpose-driven. The deeper I get into watches, the more I start questioning the disconnect between what consumers are paying for and what they’re actually receiving. Many modern microbrands share similar movements, materials, and manufacturing methods, yet prices continue climbing higher and higher. So this project became more than just a watch build. It became a way to explore value, design, branding, and the idea of creating something personal instead of simply buying into hype.
