World Trade Center Survivor Dave H., and Lower Manhattan Resident Michele D. share their personal stories of September 11th in their 9/11 Tribute Museum presentation of We Were There on stage at the National September 11th Memorial Museum. Dave worked for the Port Authority on the 68th floor of the North Tower. When the plane struck the building, Dave did not feel as if he was in danger because the alarms did not immediately go off, so he focused on doing his work. Just before 9:00 am, he began to evacuate and was able to make it down to the concourse within an hour. He was near WTC 5 when he was caught in the debris cloud and sustained injuries. His story tells of his rescue and strangers' random acts of kindness that saved him. Michele is a native New Yorker who lived four blocks from the World Trade Center with her husband, Robert, on 9/11. Robert worked as the chief architect for the Port Authority on the 73rd floor of the North Tower. Luckily, he left for work late that morning because of the Giants game the night before, and was not in the building at the time of the attacks. Michele's story tells of her efforts to reunite with her husband and her son who also lived in the area, and the moment that she truly realized the gravity of what had occurred.
