Should You Buy C4 by Source Audio?
C4 is a monophonic synth pedal that aspires to recreate classic Eurorack modular synth sounds. With four knobs on it’s face, an Alt button on the top, and a toggle that grants immediate access to six factory presets, it presents a simplistic design. Don’t let the presentation fool you though. C4 has a lot more under the hood. For those who want to venture past the 6 factory presets, you will need to access the Neuro preset editor via the free app or desktop editor. Once you access the preset editor, you’ll see that C4 provides four separate voices that can be set to Saw, Square, Sine, Mono, or Poly. These voices are the foundation that is then shaped by envelope followers, LFO wave shapes, various types of distortion, filters, sequencers, pitch shifters, and smart harmonization. This is a mouthful, and you may have to spend a bit of time getting to know C4, but the pay off is certainly worth it. If you aren’t into all the tweaking, there are more than enough presets created by Source Audio and other users to keep you busy and satisfy whatever sound you’re looking for. As for features, Source Audio thought of pretty much everything. For those who use expression, C4 also allows you to morph three parameters simultaneously. C4 is midi capable with the use of the Neuro Hub, giving you access to a total of 128 preset slots. If you like sharing your presets or want to dig into the creations of other C4 users, uploading and downloading presets is easy on the Neuro cloud. In fact, every preset used in this video is available to download. So, who is Source Audio’s C4 for? This pedal is perfect for those of us who feel limited by other synth pedals and want to create our own sounds. I find that having four individual voices to shape and blend yields unique sounds that simply wouldn't be possible with other synth pedals. Some guitarists may prefer a polyphonic solution to synth, but with pitch shifting and smart harmonization, I don’t really miss it. If you are interested in adding synth pedal to your board, C4 is certainly worth checking out. Pattern vector created by rawpixel.com - www.freepik.com
