Tokyo correspondent Moon Jun-mo reports. Reporter Yuki, a fifth-grade elementary school student living in Nantan City, Kyoto, went missing on the 23rd of last month. The last person to see him was his stepfather, who remarried Yuki's biological mother late last year. He stated that on the day of the disappearance, he "put the child in his car and drove him to school," but the school's CCTV did not capture Yuki entering the school. For the past three weeks, the police have conducted an intensive search ranging from the nearby forest to the bottom of the lake. Six days after the disappearance, a schoolbag was found in the forest west of the school, and on the 12th, shoes were found in a different location. The body was found the following day, in the mountains 2 kilometers away from the school. The police narrowed their investigation, suspecting that the scattered traces of the child might be intended to confuse the inquiry. The police, who raided Yuki's home yesterday (the 15th), obtained a confession from the stepfather after interrogating him. There were no records of child abuse or domestic violence, and since Yuki's mother and great-grandmother were living with him, it remains to be determined whether they were aware of or involved in the crime.
