Kronborg Castle in Denmark, is a Renaissance Castle which sits on the the strait of Oresund or The Sound. Its strategic location enabled tolls to be collected from the passing ships between the 15th and 19th centuries which generated significant revenue to the Danish state and royalty. Also Kronborg Castle is where Shakespeare based his play 'Hamlet'. This video explains the importance of Kronborg to Denmark and how Shakespeare came to use this castle in his play. The Castle is also an UNESCO World Heritage site.
