日本の時代箪笥というと多くの方が思い出される水屋箪笥。 今回は【近江水屋箪笥】リストアの様子をご覧いただければ幸いです。 落ち着いた佇まいで重厚感溢れる近江水屋箪笥　BB1807 https://kofukuan.jp/collections/tansu... 産地は色々とありますが、その中で特に高い人気を誇る水屋箪笥がいわゆる近江水屋箪笥です。 湖北湖東地域にて製作された重厚な雰囲気を持つ見事な水屋箪笥です。 周囲には神社仏閣も多く、必然的に指物技術が非常に高くまたそこに住まう人々の指物への理解の高い地域から生まれた箪笥です。 水屋箪笥とは何?への回答は昔の台所で食事の仕事に絡んで必要な食器類を収納していた箪笥ということになります。いまでいう食器棚です。 近江水屋箪笥の最も個性的な部分としてみざら戸と呼ばれる格子状の建具と断言できるほどの見事な仕上がりです。 平面的な格子を四方を框(木枠)で包み表から大きな鋲で留めて鋲もデザインとして利用しています。 更に人気の高い物に丸く面取りして上述と同様の仕事を施された水屋箪笥があります。こちらは彦根など湖北エリアにて製作されていたことが多いようです。 格子部分をかたどる丸い面取りは職人の鉋のサイズに依存しており職人により格子の幅が微妙に異なる面白さがあります。 竹を框組みしていると勘違いされている方もいるぐらいの素晴らしい面取り技術です。 サイズ的には6尺サイズが多く稀に特大の9尺サイズの近江水屋箪笥も見つかります。 デザイン的には上段は殆ど同じバランスですが下段は右または左に昇りの抽斗を配置して、通常の2枚扉と区別してバリエーションの一つとして認識されています。 Mizuya Tansu comes to mind when many people think of Japanese period chests. In terms of size, there are many 6-shaku sizes, but in rare cases, you can also find Omi Mizuya chests of 9-shaku size.
