This gripping film reconstructs the dramatic odyssey of numerous prominent prisoners and members of the German resistance, beginning in the summer of 1944. After the evacuation of the Dachau concentration camp, the merciless SS escort force drives the innocent women and children deeper into the Bavarian and Austrian Alps. The historical drama reaches its climax in the Puster Valley when fanatical guards prepare to liquidate the hostages, and a courageous Wehrmacht colonel takes the initiative. American troops finally assume control in South Tyrol, ending the traumatized prisoners' days of mortal fear at Lake Prags. Their subsequent internment on Capri brings the longed-for peace, before a mother, tested by fate, miraculously finds her abducted sons. ...
