Trolling Spoons for Summer Lake Trout

In this video I head to Kekekabic Lake in the Boundary Waters for the very first time to target lake trout during late June. I find success trolling Dr. Spoons even though water temperatures were high and the weather was not cooperating. When the sun is high in the sky, I like to spend my time trolling big, flashy spoons behind heavy trolling weights. Mid-summer, I find that 2-4oz of weight is sufficient to get those big light-attracting beacons down to 30+ feet with ease. Although I did not catch and large fish, I did run into a few in the 2-4lbs range that put up a good fight. All were caught on Dr. Spoons of various sizes...Brass and Orange seemed to catch the most fish, but Chrome/Blue was producing until I lost it to a snag. I end up catching 11 Trout over the course of 16 hours of fishing which I consider to be great by BWCA standards. I feel with a little wind in my favor, I would have caught plenty, and likely a better average size. #bwcalaketrout #bwcafishing #kekekabiclake
