How to harvest bearded iris seeds from the seed pods
Between late summer and early autumn the seed pods of bearded irises are finally ripen and start to split open: it is very important to protect them while growing with a net, both to avoid damage by predators such as slugs and snails, but also to avoid loosing seeds when the seed pods split open releasing the seeds. After collection, place the seeds in a cool dry place and label them with the name of the variety pollinated (pod parent), and if you know it, the variety used for pollination (pollen parent), unless, as in this case, you self pollinated your iris, using the pollen of the iris to pollinate the same plant.
