Is It Even Worth It? A Message to Every Young Gambian

Is it even worth it to try in The Gambia? (Link in Comments) That’s the question I asked a room full of young leaders this past Saturday at the African Youth Leadership Hub – The Gambia Chapter’s Leadership Session. The theme was Youth Leadership in Action: Driving Innovation, Responsibility, and National Development — and my focus was on practical approaches to innovation in the Gambian context, and how young leaders can drive industry-wide change. Not for applause. Not for motivation. But for honesty. Because if we are serious about building this country, we have to confront the reality: The system is hard. The constraints are real. And the cost of building something meaningful in The Gambia is not something we talk about enough. But here’s what I shared: 👉 Our constraints are not weaknesses — they are the curriculum. 👉 You are not waiting for a seat at the table — you are building the table. 👉 Innovation in The Gambia will not come from perfect conditions. It will come from responsible young leaders who are willing to solve real problems with what they have. 👉 And the work ahead of us is difficult — but necessary. This was not a curated speech. This was the real version. 🔑 What You’ll Take Away: Why constraints in Africa can become an advantage What young Gambians already have, but often underestimate The honest cost of building something meaningful How innovation, responsibility, and national development are connected 3 practical things you can do starting Monday morning 📌 If this message resonates: Share it with one person who needs to hear it. Because no one builds alone. 🎯 Final Thought: Every person who has ever built something meaningful in this country asked themselves the same question: “Is it worth it?” The ones who built it… answered with their hands. #Gambia #YouthLeadership #AfricaRising #EntrepreneurshipAfrica #BuildInAfrica #AfricanYouth #Leadership #Motivation #StartupAfrica #InnovateAfrica #GambiaYouth #PurposeDriven
