Kissho CAREN, a celebration inn nestled in Higashiizu Hokkawa Onsen, boasts a spectacular open-air bath with a magnificent view. All the water flows directly from the source. The abundant natural hot spring water is drawn from two private hot springs. We enjoyed six baths, including the spectacular open-air bath. The infinity-like feeling of being one with the Sagami Bay is incredible. The open-air bath offers a sense of openness, almost like being at the ocean. You can also enjoy spectacular views of the sunrise and Moon Road. The hospitality is also incredible. Enjoy freshly baked pancakes at the Afternoon Tea, wine on the terrace at the Aperitif Terrace, and complimentary tokoroten (tokoroten noodles) and beer after your bath—all before bedtime. When we returned to our room, chilled sake and jelly were waiting for us. We were deeply touched by this thoughtful touch. For dinner, we had a choice of French kaiseki, teppanyaki, or Japanese kaiseki. We chose teppanyaki. Gorgeous seafood, including abalone, spiny lobster, and golden-eyed snapper, is grilled right before your eyes. You can choose from sirloin, fillet, or venison, and they'll grill it right before your eyes. The flambé technique, in which brandy is poured over the fish and flames rise, is a unique feature of teppanyaki. Our room, Room 807, "Hana Matsuri," comes with a panoramic bath. The view from the granite bath was spectacular: blue ocean, white clouds, and fishing boats drifting on the waves, with Izu Oshima right in front of us. At night, the "Moon Road" appeared. In the morning, a beautiful sunrise greeted us. A "Sunrise Road" stretched from Izu Oshima to the bath. Thoughtful touches like a massage machine and a ReFa hair care set were also provided in the room. The nearby "Kuroneiwa Open-Air Bath" is located right next to the ocean, making it truly one with the sea. The sound of the waves was so close, it was truly wonderful. Apparently Kurone Iwaburo was ranked 5th in the Nikkei Shimbun's NIKKEI Plus 1 ranking of "Infinity Hot Springs that are One with the Sky." On my way home, I stopped off at Kensai Maki-e Experience Studio in Minami-Ito to try my hand at maki-e. Thanks to the instructor's guidance, I was able to create some wonderful pottery. It looks like something I could sell, and I'm really impressed.
