XOTA TACONEADA de Cangas del Narcea

The richness of Asturian folklore finds one of its most unique expressions in the municipality of Cangas del Narcea: the Xota taconeada. Characterized by a structure of two facing lines of men and women, this dance stands out for its three backward hopping steps and its distinctive movement. Originating in the area of the El Couto River and Las Montañas in the north of the municipality, this variant connects us to the tradition of the 'baile de arriba' (upper dance). In this video, members of the "Lo Nueso" Cultural Association explore the technique and rhythm of a piece that is a living heritage of our land. This audiovisual material was produced by Benito Sierra, with the invaluable collaboration of Tous pa Tous (Cangas Society of Country Lovers), in their work of preserving and disseminating the cultural heritage of Cangas del Narcea.
