Elizabeth Anderson describes two objections to slavery from a post-emancipation societal lens. Joshua Cohen (Political Science/Philosophy/Law, Stanford) and David Hollinger (History, Berkeley) discuss and respond to Elizabeth Anderson's lecture "Slavery, Emancipation, and the Forgotten History of the Relationship of Freedom and Equality." Each year the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society brings to Stanford a notable scholar to deliver a set of lectures, endowed by the late Robert Wesson, a political scientist and Hoover Institute Fellow, pertaining to problems in democratic theory and practice.
