Despite the abundance of modern sealing materials, interest in using moss as a sealant between log crowns is growing every year. This is primarily due to moss's pronounced antiseptic and bactericidal properties. No known sealant compares to moss in its environmental friendliness and durability. Sphagnum moss grows in coniferous and mixed forests, in lowlands and marshy areas. High soil moisture is a prerequisite for its growth. The best time to harvest moss is in the second half of summer.
