Come along with me as I roll into Maupin, Oregon — a tiny historic town perched above the mighty Deschutes River in the high desert canyon country of Central Oregon. This little place is famous with whitewater rafters, but most folks blasting up Highway 197 drive right past it and never know what they're missing.We'll cruise through town and check out the old historic buildings, then head down the BLM Recreation Road that follows the Deschutes right along the water. I'll show you the rapids where the rafters run the whitewater, the riverside campgrounds along the way, and some fantastic aerial views of the river canyon and the town from above.I'm staying right at the Maupin City Park RV sites — right on the river, and I'll give you a look at the campground so you can plan your own stop.
