Pablo Reinah, the journalist who covered the controversial arrest of Israel Vallarta and Florence Cassez in 2005, acknowledged that he was directly informed about the operation by Luis Cárdenas Palomino, who coordinated the coverage with several media outlets. Reinah explained that, given the climate of fear surrounding kidnappings in Mexico, reporters followed the authorities' instructions, interviewed alleged victims, and toured the ranch where the hostages were supposedly rescued. However, as time passed and evidence emerged pointing to a staged event, several journalists began to question the authenticity of the live-streamed operation. Reinah also revealed that during AMLO's presidency, efforts were made to secure Vallarta's release through a presidential pardon, but open cases related to other kidnappings prevented it. Nevertheless, he celebrated the fact that the case was pursued until Vallarta's release was achieved, noting that no prisoner should spend nearly 20 years in jail without a sentence. The journalist emphasized the need to review the role the media played at the time and how they were used by the authorities to stage a media spectacle instead of reporting the truth.
