Of all the Europeans who spent this summer inside America, the Germans were supposed to be immune. Efficient. Serious. Unimpressed by design — a people who invented a word for taking joy in other people's misfortune and never needed one for taking joy in anything else. If any nation was going to walk through America with arms folded, quietly noting the inefficiencies, it was this one. That is not what happened. This documentary follows how America broke the Germans — the last people on Earth who should have let it. It starts with a work-culture horror story (ten paid vacation days a year, which a German can only describe as a long weekend) and moves through every crack in the armor: the politeness that has no reason and no off switch, the food that tastes "fake" to an honest German palate, the tipping system that offends the German sense of order at a cellular level, the safety culture that reads as recklessness, and the slow, humiliating realization that every complaint a German makes about America somehow ends as a confession of love. The honest chapter stays in — the bathroom door gaps that remain an unforgivable engineering failure, the healthcare bills, the portions finished out of duty. But the conclusion the Germans reached cost them dearly to admit: America is inefficient, illogical, oversized and financially terrifying, and they had one of the best summers of their lives, and they are angry about it.
