The Modern Dead Sea and the Living Waters (Ezekiel 47:8) - Charles Spurgeon Sermon

A sermon delivered by C. H. Spurgeon, Lord's day morning, July 19th 1885. Some of us, when visiting Israel, have had the unforgettable experience of ‘swimming’ in the Dead Sea. Many take great delight in lying upon its salty waters, and applying to the skin its soft mud. It is regarded by many as a place of great interest, and of mineral wealth. Spurgeon, however, regarded it as a place of physical danger and solemn judgment. The truths he draws out for us are of great value to our souls. He knew that this Sea covers the lost ruins of Sodom, Gomorrah and the Cities of the plain. No fish or aquatic plants can survive in its waters. He explains that this symbolic Sea of Death can only become a Sea of Life through the Divine Intervention. Ezekiel saw the river of God’s grace and mercy in Christ, emanating from the Temple, and making sweet the bitter and deadly waters.
