Jay Bae입니다. 오늘은 K-팝의 표본, 온앤오프(ONF)의 신곡 〈Open The Door〉 피아노 커버 영상을 가져왔습니다. 저는 황현 작곡가가 만든 온앤오프의 노래를 들을 때마다 서정적인 멜로디와 아름다운 코드 진행이 피아노와 정말 잘 어울린다고 느끼는데요. 특히 처음부터 모든 것을 한꺼번에 보여주기보다 곡이 진행될수록 서사가 차곡차곡 쌓이고 여러 사운드 레이어가 겹겹이 더해지면서 점점 벅차오르는 흐름은 온앤오프 음악만의 시그니처라고 생각합니다. 이번 신곡도 공개되자마자 들어봤는데 역시 기대를 저버리지 않더라고요. 피아노로 꼭 연주해보고 싶다는 생각이 들어 곧바로 귀로 카피하기 시작했고 원곡의 매력을 최대한 살릴 수 있도록 열심히 연습했습니다. 이번 커버에서는 단순히 보컬 멜로디와 코드만 옮기기보다 원곡 속 베이스와 리듬, 화음, 신스와 스트링의 움직임까지 피아노 한 대에 최대한 담아 그 꽉 찬 사운드와 감정이 점차 고조되는 흐름을 표현해보고 싶었습니다🎹 특히 인트로에서 오른손으로 연속 유니즌을 연주하는 부분이 생각보다 훨씬 어려웠는데요. 연습할수록 손목과 팔에서 구조 신호가 오기 시작했지만 원곡 특유의 질감을 살리려면 도저히 쉽게 타협할 수가 없었습니다😅 결국 이번에도 건강과의 협상은 잠시 결렬하고 퀄리티를 선택했습니다. 어제가 마지막 음악방송 무대였다는 이야기를 듣고 정말 아쉬웠습니다. 노래뿐 아니라 무대 연출과 퍼포먼스까지 정말 좋았는데 이렇게 좋은 곡이 이대로 지나가기에는 너무 아깝다는 생각이 들었습니다🥺 온앤오프의 〈Open The Door〉가 더 많은 분께 알려지고 오래 사랑받기를 바라는 마음으로 피아노 한 대로 이 곡의 벅찬 서사를 담아보았습니다. Today, I’m sharing my piano cover of ONF’s new song, “Open The Door”—a track that feels like a perfect example of what makes K-pop so compelling. Whenever I listen to ONF songs composed by Hwang Hyun, I’m always struck by how naturally their lyrical melodies and beautiful chord progressions translate to the piano. Rather than revealing everything at once, ONF’s music gradually builds its story, adding layer upon layer of sound until the emotion becomes almost overwhelming. To me, that kind of carefully constructed progression is one of the defining qualities of their music. I listened to “Open The Door” as soon as it was released, and once again, it did not disappoint. From the very first listen, I knew I wanted to play it on the piano, so I immediately began transcribing it by ear and practicing to preserve as much of the original song’s character as possible. For this cover, I wanted to go beyond simply playing the vocal melody and chords. I tried to capture the bass, rhythm, harmonies, synths, and string movements of the original arrangement, recreating its full sound and gradual emotional rise with just one piano🎹 The repeated right-hand unison passage in the intro was much more difficult than I expected. As I practiced, my wrist and arm began sending increasingly urgent distress signals, but I simply could not compromise on the powerful texture of the original😅 So once again, negotiations with my physical well-being were temporarily suspended—and I chose the arrangement. I was genuinely sad to hear that yesterday was the final music-show performance. Not only is the song wonderful, but the staging and performance were also incredibly memorable. It felt far too soon for such a great song to quietly pass by🥺 I hope ONF’s “Open The Door” reaches many more listeners and continues to be loved for a long time.
