The autonomous region now known as Supiori Regency was once part of this regency. The regency's population in 2020 was 145,952, with 74,458 males and 71,494 females. This regency, adjacent to Supiori Regency, has two main islands: Biak Island and Numfor Island. This regency has been approved by the Indonesian National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN) as the site for the construction of a spaceport. The regency was chosen because of its proximity to the equator and because LAPAN already owns several hectares of land there.
