L'histoire de MEAUX... A toute Berzingue ! 🏃

I'll take you on a journey of discovery through the history of Meaux, at full speed, in 5 minutes flat! 0:00 - Introduction 0:22 - Antiquity Meaux was the oppidum of the Celtic tribe of the Meldi. After the conquest of Gaul by Julius Caesar, Meaux retained its strategic importance thanks to its location in the center of Northern Gaul, where Roman roads passed through. 1:25 - Middle Ages Meaux still benefits from its very favorable geographical location, halfway between Paris, capital of the Kingdom of France, and the famous Champagne fairs, the commercial crossroads of Europe. The city took advantage of this wealth and expanded. It built the Market Bridge and established a market on its peninsula, the current market square. 3:51 - Renaissance Meaux was later won over by the ideas of the Reformation, and it sought to be a humanist city. This marked the creation of the famous Cenacle of Meaux. Meaux was torn between Protestants and Catholics. The situation calmed with the Edict of Nantes, and Henry IV made his solemn entry into the city in 1594. 5:40 - Modern Era Bossuet wrote the famous funeral orations for the royal family of Louis XIV in Meaux. 7:07 - Contemporary Era In contemporary times, the Germans were stopped in Meaux during the Battle of the Marne. Meaux was the first city in the Île-de-France region to receive the City of Art and History label in 1988. The Museum of the Great War, inaugurated in 2011, is a must-see in Meaux. The museum is fascinating: it's an essential gem of our heritage. And all that in 5 minutes flat?
