The Lost Deutz-Allis Flagship Tractor - AGCO Allis 9690
In this Tractor Central video, I break down the AGCO Allis 9690, the top air-cooled Deutz-powered tractor in the AGCO Allis 9600 series. Built only in 1994 and 1995 with exactly 999 units produced, the 9690 paired a Deutz BF6L513R turbocharged 9.6L direct air-cooled 6-cylinder diesel with a FUNK 18 forward, 9 reverse full power shift transmission. We go through the real specs that matter for a high-horsepower row-crop tractor, including MFWD with inboard planetary final drives, an electro-hydraulic rear differential lock, closed-center pressure-compensating hydraulics rated at 2,500 PSI with 24 GPM flow and 3 to 4 rear remotes, and a Category III hitch with 9,900 pounds of lift at 24 inches. I also cover the independent 1000 RPM PTO, plus Nebraska test performance numbers of 205.49 PTO horsepower and 170.56 drawbar horsepower, along with fuel use at maximum PTO power of 12.0 gallons per hour, which works out to about 17.1 horsepower-hours per gallon. I also explain where the 9690 came from, including the shift from Allis-Chalmers to Deutz Allis and the formation of AGCO under Bob Ratliff, then how the White Workhorse 6100 platform produced at Coldwater, Ohio in 1993 became the blueprint for the AGCO Allis 9600 series. We take a close look at the 9690’s cab and visibility features, including the 15-inch cab-forward design, hood that flips forward for service access, and the Nebraska/OECD cab sound figure of 77.0 dB(A) at 75% load in 8th gear. Finally, I lay out fair 2026 used pricing for the AGCO Allis 9690, from $10,000–$18,000 for high-hour or rough project tractors, $24,000–$34,000 for solid working examples, and $34,000–$45,000 for near-perfect low-hour machines, along with the big reality that affects every deal on these tractors: parts availability. #TractorCentral #AgcoTractors #DeutzTractors
