Latviešu strelnieki Intervija Naves salā 1916 g.

This is an interview of a Latvian riflemen, (Strelnieks). The riflemen were formed under the Russian empire in WWI when the German army advanced into Latvia. The front divided Latvian territory and Latvians did not want the country to be split. In 1915 the Tzar allowed Latvians to form under Latvian command and eight battalions were formed. Some of these soldiers became Red riflemen and a small group became the Latvian national army which helped free the land from occupying forces.
