Movement Is Medicine: The Benefits for Your Body and Your Brain
Most people doing physically demanding work assume they are already active enough. 8 - 14 hours of physical output a day has to count for something. Dr. Scott Lear says the short answer is yes. But the long answer depends on the type of work. Scott is the lead researcher behind the PURE Study, one of the largest cardiovascular health studies ever conducted involving 130,000 people across 17 countries. And one of the most important things that research revealed is that the type of activity matters as much as the amount. Heavy repetitive labor in a fixed position does not carry the same cardiovascular benefits as walking, running, or aerobic exercise. And most field workers are not getting into the heart rate zones that protect long-term health.
