Bádenas (Teruel)

A municipality in the province of Teruel, in the Autonomous Community of Aragon. It belongs to the Jiloca region. It is located in the Iberian System. It is surrounded by the rocky cliffs of the Sierra del Cucalón or Sierra de Oriche and de Herrera, and next to the Cámaras River. In 1248, it separated from Daroca and joined the Sesma de Trasierra in the Community of Villages of Daroca, belonging to this regime until the death of Ferdinand VII in 1833. After the judicial reform of 1965, it became part of the Judicial District of Calamocha. In 2003, it was incorporated into the Jiloca region. This small town had a good number of illustrious sons, such as Nicolás Francisco San Juan y Domingo, born in 1640, a doctor, medical scholar, and author of one of the first medical topographies. Melchor Serrano de San Nicolás, born in 1738, was an auxiliary bishop of Valencia, a theologian, writer, and humanist. He taught philosophy and theology. Juan Tomás Durán, in 1671, author of several Latin and scientific works, and Emilio Bello Guallar in 1902, a professor of gynecology. Of great historical interest is the Church ⛪ of the Assumption of Our Lady, destroyed during the Civil War and rebuilt in 1958. As is the Town Hall 🏪, of traditional Aragonese construction.
