Drawing with Your Gel Plate
In this video, I show how to draw using your gel plate! Enjoy watching and I hope you get inspired to try similar methods at home! PROCESS: Using marker or acrylic paint, draw your image. This will be the "front" image on your final piece. LET DRY. This may take at least 20 minutes. Then mix colors and paint where you like. Let dry fully. Finally, using brayer, roll a thin layer of regular acrylic (light color in this case) over entire plate. Do not let dry! Place paper on plate right away, rub gently to make sure paper makes contact everywhere. NOW LET DRY. Wait at least 30 minutes, maybe one hour or two depending on the temperature/humidity of your workspace. Pull up paper. All the paint and drawing should come up onto your paper. If not, you may not have let the final layer dry fully. MATERIALS Materials used in the video: Gel plate 12 x 14 -"Basic" Liquitex acrylic paints (or Amsterdam) Colors used in video: Liquitex/Amsterdam: Buff/Unbleached Titanium, primary red, ultramarine blue -Brayer -Asian calligraphy brush -Smooth heavyweight paper such as watercolor or printmaking paper.
