Disque le Soleil from Martin Cayla ( Sansac-de-Marmiesse 23 June 1889 – Paris 28 January 1951) Martin Cayla recorded his "Disque Le Soleil" records in Paris from 1927 (Disc nr. 1) till 1940 (Disc nr. 479) In those days many immigrants of the Auvergne region lived in Paris. They kept to their traditions and Martin Cayla’s musicshop was the place to be for typical Auvergnat musical instruments as the Cabrette (bagpipe) and accordion, but also for many to record their music in his modest studio. Martin often played along as a guest musician on his own recordlabel. If you listen to Martin's records you soon will find out that the fun of making music was more important to him than delivering a perfect record. Not seldom a record sounds distorted due to a too high inputlevel of the microphones, the song doesn't start or end as intended, a banjo player uses the wrong scheme of chords and also unintended background noises can be heard. This doesn't matter on a Disque Le Soleil record, since it is all about the fun of making music and dancing to it! His records are honest as a life performance.
