Adirondack Canoe Camping - St. Regis Canoe Wilderness: Fish Pond and Remote Pond Exploration

In this adventure, I spent 4 days and 3 nights deep in the St. Regis Canoe Wilderness exploring some of the Adirondacks’ quietest waters. I set up camp on Fish Pond and paddled and hiked my way through Little Fish Pond, Little Long Pond, Lydia Pond, and Kit Fox Pond in search of solitude, scenery, and brook trout. The trip didn’t come easy. Relentless black flies—made worse by my allergy to them—tested me every step of the way. And despite covering miles of remote wilderness, the fish never seemed to cooperate. But sometimes the experience is bigger than the catch. From peaceful morning paddles to remote pond exploration, this journey became a reminder of why we venture into the backcountry in the first place: not always for success, but for the adventure, the struggle, and the chance to experience wild places few people ever see.
