Ohio's New Congressional District Map: What's Changed?

The Ohio Redistricting Commission has approved a bi-partisan congressional district map. The map carves up Ohio into its 15 districts. Three are considered safe Democratic districts and 12 are considered to favor Republicans. The key changes are that Democrat Emlia Sykes’ seat in 13th district in Akron is more safely Democratic. Democrat Marcy Kaptur’s 9th district seat in the Toledo area is more Republican. And Democrat Greg Landsman’s 1st district seat in Cincinnati goes from a tossup district to leans Republican. We also look at the impact of government shutdown in Ohio. On Friday, a judge ordered the Trump admin to pay for SNAP benefits following lawsuit by Columbus, other cities and a group of nonprofits. A new bill in the Ohio House would require certain large non-profits in the state could require them to make payments in place of taxes. The bill raises questions to whether Ohio’s large hospitals, universities, churches and other non-profits should pay property taxes. Another plan to lower property taxes could around the state by consolidating many government entities. The top target could be school districts. The state has more than 600 school districts.
