Welcome to the Meet the Instruments 5-year Anniversary Special! The Nirks have been wanting to start their own orchestra at castle Nirkenstein for ages. Now, thanks to the help of their new friends from Orchestra Nova Northwest (formerly Portland Columbia Symphony,) they can! Join the Nirks on their musical journey through the orchestra. Today, we’ll meet all of the brass instruments in and orchestra! Including the trumpets, horn, trombones and tuba! Up first we will be meeting the highest member of the Brass family, the Trumpet! Baabette the Sheep has been practicing hard to learn to play the trumpet, and she'll introduce us to her teacher, professional trumpet player Jason Gunderson. Jason is very excited to show you all kinds of trumpets, and Carl the Candy Corn might stop by too. Carl really wants to be a part of the orchestra...do you think we can find a way for him to be involved??? Jason and Baabette also have a fun new duet to perform together! Next, we’ll meet the fantastic French Horn! Join Vincent, Al and Doug to meet the French Horn. Al the Alien loves the horn, and he's been learning to play with the help of professional horn player Doug "Dr. Hornpipes" Riggs! Doug can't wait to show you how the Horn works, what it sounds like, and how you play on horseback! Wait...that can't be right, can it? Let's find out! Doug and Al also have a really cool duet to play for us to show off their amazing skills! The next member of the Brass family: The Trombone! Spice Monkey LOVES practicing the Trombone, and his teacher, professional trombonist John Ohnstad is here to show us how the instrument works. Did you know that trombones can come in many sizes, and some are as small as Spice Monkey and some are almost as tall as John! And how do they play all those notes without any keys or buttons?!? I'm sure John and Spice Monkey can figure it out as we Meet the Trombone! Lastly, we’ll meet the LARGEST member of the brass family, the tremendous Tuba! Pumpy the Pumpkin and his teacher, professional tuba player Joe Ready will tell you all about the Tuba! Joe can play even lower than any other brass instrument, and make some really weird sounds too! Did you know you can sing and play the tuba at the same time? And tubas hardly ever need mutes, so Carl should be safe, right? Right?!? Joe and Pumpy have a really groovy duet to play for you too!
