I Ride The K2 Almanac On a Powder Day

I was lucky enough to grab a K2 Almanac this season, and was waiting for a proper powder day to really feel it out. February 1st was the perfect day to do such a test, as we had 10cm on top of 17 cm from the day before. The hill was fully filled in and it was time to go! To be honest, I was super bummed out about the first run. I had been on the first gondola with my buddy, and we were first over to this line. Yet somehow the line(s) had already been poached. There are 3 main corridors through that run, and each had been ridden by either ski patrol, or from the various 150 people they let up as part of the Whistler Kids program. Either way, there's not much that can be done, alas- I might need to re assess my early morning run on Blackcomb. Once I got back up the mountain, I was then able to reset and find some nice lines through Patroller Trees back out to Sunset Boulevard. The dense trees force me to consider the tightest of turns, and the Almanac made it look stylistic and surfy to say the least. After that I headed over to Seventh Heaven, as to visit my favourite place on the hill- The Andreas Woods. In actuality this area is out of bounds, and was originally named "Shooting Gallery". Most people don't go over this way because it requires a considerable amount of traversing. I grabbed a quick few laps through the trees, getting some nice tight powder turns through the forest.
