Marc Bloch Fougères, clandestin aux Annales

Anne Simonin, Research Director at the Raymond Aron Center for Sociological and Political Studies (School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences - EHESS) During the Occupation, Marc Bloch was a victim of Vichy's anti-Semitic laws, to the point of having to relinquish his co-editorship of the Annales. He would have liked the journal to cease publication, but after a difficult debate with Lucien Febvre, the latter convinced him that publishing such an open and critical journal would, in a sense, be an anti-Vichy act. Marc Bloch continued to publish in the journal, but under pseudonyms. Roundtable discussion as part of the study day dedicated to Marc Bloch - June 15, 2026
