However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initially only ordered the removal of the problematic oil from shelves, later deciding to expand the recall as a precautionary measure, drawing criticism for a policy reversal. As the incident escalated, President Lai Ching-te ordered that all affected products be removed from shelves and those responsible be held accountable without leniency.
