Great Northern Class 700 Desiro City London King's Cross to Cambridge 20/3/25

Today was the day of the Spring Equinox and the weather was just so perfect! The sun was out and it was a warm day! This was my first trip up to Cambridge for 15 years since my last one way back in June 2010. A lot has changed 15 years later in Cambridge with a lot of new buildings constructed and the city itself has become all modernised which was amazing. Todays journey was on board a Class 700 Desiro City which was borrowed from Thameslink until Great Northern can re-traction the Class 379 Electrostars onto the East Coast Main Line (ECML). The Class 379 Electrostars were put into storage from their service with Greater Anglia and Stansted Express services in 2020 when they were replaced with a new fleet of Class 720 Aventras on Greater Anglia routes and Class 745 FLIRTs on Stansted Express routes from London Liverpool Street at that time. During the journey, I was sitting in the second carriage from the front of the train with the Pantograph on it and sitting on the seat where the Pantograph sits so I can hear those thuds of the Pantograph when it touches the Contact Wire Insulator in the Neutral Sections we pass throughout the journey.
