The Central Government has approved a landmark project that will accelerate the development of Varanasi. The construction of the 89-kilometer-long Ganga and Varuna Elevated Corridor, costing ₹25,445 crore, will completely transform Kashi's transportation system. Under this mega project, the Ganga Elevated Corridor and the Varuna Link Connector Corridor will be developed. Once completed, vehicles coming from Chandauli, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Lucknow, and Bihar will be able to reach their destinations directly without entering the city's congestion. The greatest benefit will accrue to devotees and tourists visiting Baba Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham. The travel time to Namo Ghat, Samne Ghat, and the Dham will now be reduced from approximately 60 minutes to just 20 minutes. Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister and Varanasi MP Narendra Modi for this historic approval.
