PWM dimming means the technique by the brightness of the display can be adjusting the duty cycle of pulse. It means that the screen brightness can be adjusted by varying the on-time and off-time of the waveform of the pulse applied to the display panels. On the other hand, DC dimming is a technique where the brightness of the panel can be altered by varying the amount of power being supplied to the panels. It can be either way, by varying the voltage and keeping the current constant or by varying the current keeping the voltage level constant. So which one is better between DC dimming vs PWM dimming, you might wonder. Since the off time is increased to lower the brightness in PWM dimming, you will notice the screen flickering. But the screen flickers are not quite pronounced in the naked eyes but if you see the screen on the cameras, you can notice it. And with such a method of display dimming technology, there are various effects of PWM dimming in human life. Although many people are resistant to them, some people can experience headaches and eyestrains, which can grow into a migraine in the long run. In order to cope with such types of PWM dimming disadvantages, DC dimming technology was established. DC dimming in AMOLED displays evades the issues related to screen flickers. And it also doesn’t invite problems like eyestrain, headaches, and migraines. Because of these sorts of DC dimming advantages, smartphone manufacturers are rigorously toiling to include DC dimming feature in their phones. In that context, implementations of DC dimming OnePlus 7 Pro and DC dimming Oppo Reno 10X Zoom Edition are the examples.
