Grand Tour of a 1850's Era West Virginia Farm and Homestead by my friend Autumn. At the filming of this tour in January of 2019, my friend Autumn is 75 years old. I have known her for over 35 years. She homesteaded this farm with her husband Bob, back in the 1950's. She raised two beautiful daughters on this farm, as well as a myriad of livestock, working dogs, food crops, preserves, outbuildings, fences, rock walls, bridges, and wonderful, wonderful memories. Although I have visited with Autumn in various places many times over the years, this was the first time I had been back to her farm in I'm guessing... over 25 years. Autumn's husband Bob, who designed and built many of the structures and systems on this farm, contracted a severe case of multiple sclerosis almost 30 years ago. Nearly completely incapacitated, Autumn took care of Bob on the farm for 25 years, until he needed the constant care of professional medical facilities and personnel. Bob is still alive today, although Autumn describes him as a "shell of a human being", and is in a facility about an hour away from the farm. Autumn visits him regularly. I had no plans to "interview" Autumn when I finally got to take her up on an invitation to visit her at the farm that had been extended for decades. I was nursing a 2 week old broken rib, and I just started filming to document my hike to her farm. But when I got there, she just started sharing so much interesting and historic information with me, that I had to keep on filming. I'm glad I did. Her story is so enriching to me. I hope it is as enriching to those who take the time to view this amazingly wonderful and challenging lifestyle. Autumn is a spunky, lively, stoic, warm, welcoming, friendly, entertaining, beautiful and enduring human being. I am delighted to be her friend for so long, and grateful and forever entertained by the wonderful experience we shared touring her homestead farm for a day in the middle of wild, wonderful wilderness and a calm snowy day in the middle of winter.
