Kelheim is the district seat of the district of the same name in the administrative region of Lower Bavaria in germany, also the most populous city in the district. Kelheim is dominated by the Befreiungshalle (Hall of Liberation ), which lies on a mountain spur between the Danube and Altmühl valleys .Weltenburg is a parish village and part of the municipality of Kelheim in Lower Bavaria . Weltenburg Monastery is located just north of Weltenburg itself, above the Danube Gorge in a bend of the Danube . The municipality of Weltenburg existed until 1974. The parish village itself lies on the right bank of the Danube, south of the monastery. State Road 2233 runs through the village . The Weltenburg district lies entirely within the territory of the town of Kelheim. The Kelheim districts of Arzberg and Weltenburg lie within it . Its area is approximately 4.7 square kilometers. Its neighboring districts are Stausacker , Kelheim, Thaldorf , Holzharlanden , and Staubing . North of the village lies the natural forest of beech forests in the southern Franconian Jura , one of the largest forest conservation areas in Bavaria.
