[AMERICAN SPAIN] Conversation with Sir John Elliott
A conversation with Sir John Elliott on the "American Spain". Oxford, July 2013. In this series of interviews , 6 prominent Hispanists will walks us through the American Spain. Stanley G. Payne, Mario Vargas Llosa, Sir John Elliott, Charles Powell, Felipe Fernández Armesto, and Hugh Thomas, make up the selected group of specialists in Hispanic-American relations that will speak about the close historical relationship between the United States and Spain. In particular, they will introduce the Spanish language as the main pillar of Hispanic identity, delve deeper into various important instances of Hispanic history in the Americas, and introduce the vast Hispanic cultural and historical legacy in the United States, which is still strongly present in modern times. The interviews were conducted by the diplomat and writter Santiago de Mora Figueroa, Marqués de Tamarón, and were compiled as part of the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU.’s project titled “American Spain. Six historical points of view”. We thank Agencia EFE and the Spanish National Library for collaborating to make this project possible.
