Friends from the Field: Why the Bird Sings

Join BHHT and IHT as we welcome UMaine PHD student James Longo for our May FFtF webinar (and the last of the 2025-26 season before we break for the summer.) Birdsong is one of nature's most miraculous phenomena. Virtually everyone has noticed and enjoyed birds singing, and the curious have wondered why and how it exists. Although we still don't fully understand animal communication, studying bird song has taught us about how they, and we, communicate and experience the world. James Longo is a PhD student at the University of Maine researching Bicknell's Thrush conservation. He is also a board member of Downeast Audubon, Coordinator of the Hancock County Young Birders Club, and a guide for the Acadia Birding Festival and Wings, Waves, and Woods.
