Head to www.disciplesofthedivinelogos.com Saint Aidan, born around 590 AD in Ireland, was a monk from Iona, a centre of Celtic Christianity. In 635 AD, King Oswald of Northumbria called Aidan to help evangelise his kingdom. Aidan established a stronghold of faith on Lindisfarne, founding a monastery that became a centre of Christian learning and mission. Aidan’s influence reached both kings and commoners. His partnership with King Oswald unified the church and kingdom in purpose, and his prayers saved Bamburgh from pagan raiders, showing his deep spiritual authority. St Aidan’s legacy endures through Lindisfarne and the faith he strengthened across northern England and beyond through his disciples St Cedd and St Chad. Celebrated on 31 August, Saint Aidan reminds us what it means to be a bringer of the light.
