The Happiest Village of INDIA | TURTUK in Ladakh

Turtuk is one of the last inhabited frontier , tucked away as the forgotten jewel at the very edge of ladakh. Cradeled in the embrace of the mighty karakoram ranges, this tiny hamlet whispers the stories of time, resilience and beauty. Turtuk is a remote and Picturesque village of Nubra valley in Ladakh near Line of Control with pakistaan. Its home for the Balti people , whose language, tradition and cusine reflects a mix of Ladaki and central asian influences. Until 1971, Turtuk was part of Gilgit baltistaan in pakistaan and it became part of India after Indo pak war. This village is surrounded by the Snow clad mountains, apricot orchid and The Shyok River. This village is famous for its wooden bridge, stone paved lanes, Balti heritage house and museum and friendly locals with warm hospitality. This was our 5th day in Ladakh, we started our journey from Leh, after visiting in & around Leh we reached the Nubra valley. Our journey was Nubra valley started from Turtuk and then we proceeded towards Thang to see the POK, ie border of India and Pakistan. We stayed at Turtuk at a place which is located in the Nubra valley on the banks of Shyok river. The Shyok river originates from the Rimo glacier & meets the Nubra River and becomes Shyok which further joins Indus river near Skardu. Turtuk - It is a village located in the Leh district of the union territory of Ladakh, India. It is situated in the northeastern part of Ladakh, close to the Line of Control (LoC) that separates India and Pakistan-administered territories. It is a lesser visited place, considered to be an offbeat location in Leh-ladakh. Heritage House or Museum - Managed by the Turtuk women welfare society, Ticket - Rs 200 Here we saw the ancient Vessels & artifacts which are kept in this museum. Royal Palace of Yabgo Dynasty - This palace was built in the 16th Century by the famous king Yabgo Turab khan for a summer house. Ticket - Rs 100 per person with Guided tour. Thang village - It is about 10 km from Turtuk & 95 km from Hunder, it is the last village, one can see the POK with naked eyes.
