Juan B. Meseguer Concertino Op. 12 - Fran Rubira (12 y.o.)
Fran Rubira Ponce, trombone (12 y.o.) Francisco Mengual Sanfélix, conductor Banda Sinfónica "La Unió" de Quart de Poblet (Valencia) 23/5/2026 - Live recording Concertino Op. 12 - Juan B. Meseguer Auditorio "Molí de Vila" de Quart de Poblet (Valencia) Concertino Op. 12 is a work by Valencian composer Juan B. Meseguer, written and dedicated especially to its soloist, the trombonist Fran Rubira, who was only twelve years old at the time. As a nod to Fran’s age, the composer chose to include this reference in the title through the opus number: Op. 12. The piece is structured in three movements and uses a modal musical language, with highly memorable and engaging themes for the listener. The first movement is based on a previous work by the composer entitled Sextetum solidario, originally written for the international trumpeter Rubén Simeó, the trombonist Fran Rubira, and the Valencia String Quartet. The second movement is inspired by the main theme of the tune that Juan B. Meseguer composed for the Spanish Association of Cochlear Implant Users (AICE). Finally, the third movement is a lively scherzo-rondo, bringing the concertino to a brilliant and energetic close. The work was premiered in November 2025 with the Yátova Symphonic Band in Valencia. The dedicatee, Fran Rubira, later performed the piece on a short tour with the symphonic bands of Mislata, Venta del Moro, and Quart de Poblet, all in the province of Valencia.
