We really thought this area in Portugal could be the one… but the reality has been very different. After weeks of searching, we’ve hit a wall — and it’s not what we expected. This week, we’ve been living in the countryside near Espinhal, in the Coimbra district, pet sitting and experiencing what life in central Portugal could really feel like. Surrounded by birds, nature, and long warm spring days, everything looks perfect on the surface. But when it comes to house hunting in Portugal, things get complicated. In this video, we share the honest reality of moving to Portugal, from spending hours searching online listings, to discovering that many properties don’t have a habitation license, aren’t fully legal, or simply aren’t what they seem. We also had a huge realisation… 👉 The best homes might not even be online. Through meeting locals, visiting other families, and experiencing life here first-hand, we’re starting to understand that word of mouth could be the key to finding a home in Portugal. At the same time, this week gave us clarity on what we truly want — not just a house, but a lifestyle. A garden full of life, space for the kids to explore, and something sustainable for the future.
