CHOOSING THE MOST IMPORTANT | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (July 26, 2026) with Sign Language We are in the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time; and in today’s gospel, Jesus likens the Kingdom of God to “a treasure buried in a field,” “a merchant searching for fine pearls,” and “a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind.” This concludes Jesus’s discourse in Chapter 13 of Saint Matthew’s gospel. The Kingdom of God is precious like a treasure and a fine pearl. To obtain it, it is worth losing or giving up everything as the man did in the parable. He sold everything he had in order to buy the field where the treasure is hidden. The same, too, with the merchant; he sold everything he had to buy the pearl of great price that he found. Then, the last parable reminds us of the one proclaimed the other week. Only when the day of judgment would God judge us, the collected fish, between good catch and bad, the righteous and the not so righteous. Belonging to the kingdom of God requires the grace and boldness to choose the most important in life.
