Winged beans, also known by many names including Goa beans or Asparagus pea, are a type of legume that is commonly eaten in Southeast Asian cuisine. I believe they are native to PNG. They taste like a cross between a snow pea and asparagus. They are mostly grown in tropical regions and are very easy to grow! The pod of the winged bean is long and grows in a wing-like shape, hence the name "winged beans." The pod contains small edible seeds that are similar in taste and texture to green beans. The leaves, flowers, and roots of the plant are also edible and used in various dishes.
